• Howling Giant to perform at Joint Jam this weekend

  Here at WABY, we love our stoner and doom metal. On October 10th, Joint Jam hits Saratoga Springs, showcasing the excellent local talent in the 518 - led by Gozer and Black Tongue Reverend - and teaming up with Nashville’s Howling Giant on their Swords of Fortune tour. This show is going to be an all-day blast of sludgy, dirty, in-your-face trippy Rock ‘N Roll.

• Vintri Hill to play Punktoberfest in Albany

  One of the local bands that has been pounding the pavement is Vintri Hill. These guys have been out playing shows at any chance they could get. If they weren’t playing, it isn’t shocking that they are out supporting the scene in the crowds. Ahead of Punktoberfest Friday October 16th at Empire Underground, I got to chat with the guys from Vintri Hill before embarking on a tour of the east coast, including a date on 10/1 in Wilmington (Much love to WSNJ).

• Jeff Plate of Trans-Siberian Orchestra

  The holidays are rapidly approaching. That means 2 things… My coal stockpile is about to be refilled, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra is rolling into Albany. I recently got to chat with Jeff Plate (On the phone too) Drummer and original member of TSO.  They are coming to town Thursday December 17th to the MVP Arena. Tickets go on sale Friday September 18th.

  There are just as many good bands that you don’t know about, verses the artists that are mainstream. They may exist right here in your backyard, no matter what state, country or universe you live in, they are there. These bands work hard, write music, record and play live. Independent musicians have always followed the DIY ethic, some succeed while others struggle.

  In a generation of overwhelming technology and AI generated music, some musicians actually still play real instruments and record live. Sometimes it takes decades for rock to reinvent itself, but it eventually pays tribute to the past. We’ve posted some videos by bands that you should be listening to or going to see live. We have decorations that were made by family members many years ago. Decor obtained through holiday craft fairs, and some things we just acquired over the years.
